Bernie Curley

General Manager at Stonehouse Walsgrave in Coventry

Why did you choose to work with Stonehouse?

I chose to continue my career with Stonehouse because it’s a new, exciting and fast moving brand. We have a fantastic operations team who are all so passionate and driven, they have inspired me to drive my own site and be the best that I can be!

I started at my site 10 years ago as a cleaner and with the amazing support of my area manager, brand team and great training courses I became general manager within 10 months. Over the last 10 years I have won numerous business awards, I’ve even managed to win Brand Manager of the year!

What do you love most about your job?

What I love most about my job is being able to employ people of all ages, train and coach them until they become great team members. I love being able to watch them grow in confidence and be the best that they can be!

Josh Thind

Front of House Team Member at Stonehouse Walsgrave in Coventry

Why did you choose to work with Stonehouse?

My local Stonehouse, the Walsgrave, had gone from strength to strength. I wanted to be part of a fast-moving restaurant with a great team, and I’m glad to say that my family were right in recommending Stonehouse!

Just after finishing my A Levels, my General Manager offered me a role. My manager has taken me under her wing ever since and the team are a great support. I’ve learnt a lot on the job, but I’ve also been able to improve my skills online through our training platform. The online learning is great, because I can improve my knowledge at a time that suits me. I’ve developed so much that I’ve been promoted to Shift Supervisor after only 10 months of being with the team!

What do you love most about your team?

I love the people. I work with the most talented and helpful team anyone could ask for. Without their support, I wouldn’t have been able to progress so quickly.

I also love our guests. At the Walsgrave, we make sure all our guests leave happy, and that’s why they just keep coming back! That’s the best thing you could ask for in our business and it’s what fuels me to keep on improving with every shift.

Oli Aston

Kitchen Team Member at Stonehouse Ashbank Hotel in Stoke-on-Trent

Why did you choose to work with Stonehouse?

I joined Stonehouse because of the way the company is run. I love ‘The Stonehouse Way’! They care so much about their guests and team members, which is what makes my job so rewarding.

Another reason I joined Stonehouse, is because I want a long-term career. The opportunity for progression was clear from the start, and I was given an induction personalised to my experience and skills, which immediately lined me up for success.

Some of my induction training was online through our learning portal, it was so flexible and easy. I was able to work through the training at my own pace at a time that suited me, so I was able to gain knowledge and develop new skills.

My Manager and the team have really focused on my strengths and how to develop them to further my career. I have also had support from my Management Team and the Central Training Team, who have helped me to address my weaknesses and given me the opportunity to turn them into strengths.

I joined the team as a Kitchen Assistant and I’m now working to become a Team Leader with the possibility of developing even further.

What do you love most about your job?

I love my job because there is always a focus on my professional growth. I also love serving guests and seeing them enjoying their food and having a great time. It is so rewarding to get great feedback. I love being a part of the team and I’ve gone a long way since joining Stonehouse. The people I work with have supported me every step of the way!
